FireStats' President Paul Rottenberg Contracted to USFA as a Subject Matter Expert in Deployment Analysis -- Update
July 2010

FireStats' contract with the USFA was recently renewed under a sub-contract to curriculum development specialist C2 Technologies, Inc., a Northern Virginia-based defense and DHS contractor. Work on the Risk Assessment and Deployment Analysis curriculum for the NFA continues wi th the expectation of an early-2011 pilot course delivery.

FireStats' Newest Software Applications Released This Month in Beta Testing

FireStats has made significant revisions to our proprietary software in use by several fire departments in California and in Florida. The latest updates allow users to perform geospatial statistical analysis functions on user-defined map polygons, making simple the process of evaluating and comparing historical response times by geographic area by unit.

FireStats' Contracted for Additional Analysis Work for Jurisdictions in Pennsylvania

FireStats is presently working on deployment assessments for two jurisdictions in Pennsylvania. Work is scheduled to be completed in mid-July. These two jurisdictions brings to four the number of Pennsylvania departments we have worked for this year.

Paul Wickman of Minneapolis has joined FireStats as an associate. Paul is an extermley talented GIS programmer and cartographer whose work has been instrumental in creating the FireStats' online analysis environment. Paul has a Masters degree in Geographic Information Systems and Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. His work thus far in consolidating GIS and analysis servers and functionalities with John Fesenko has been instrumental in bringing our analysis tools to their current level.

 

Paul Rottenberg Speaks at the Annual Conference of the Fire Districts Association of California in Lake Tahoe.

Paul Rottenberg recently spoke in a 90-minute session at the annual FDAC conference in Lake Tahoe. Paul discussed basic tools and principles of analysis and perfoermance measurements for fire departments and shared his experiences in analyzing operations for vastly different departments.

Paul Rottenberg to Teach at the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) Annual Excellence Conference in Orlando

Paul Rottenberg has concluded three days of teaching FireStats' Data Analysis and Performance Measurement curriculum to attendees at the CPSE's annual conference. Attendees at the class were mostly from accredited agencies or agencies seeking accreditation.

FireStats' President Paul Rottenberg was recently retained by the USFA to work on curriculum development at the National Fire Academy for a pilot course in Risk Assessment and Deployment Analysis. Along with Risk Assessment experts from three other states, Paul spent several days assisting NFA program managers and curriculum development contractors in the outlining of appropriate content for the pilot course. With guidance from other stakeholders in the Fire Service, the group sucessfully articulated the core curriculum for this new class. We are looking forward to the next round of work with the NFA and the offering of the class in 2010.

 

FireStats' Adds User-defined Mapping Tools for Fire Department Clients Using FireStats Statistical Analysis Tools.

FireStats' recently added a user-defined mapping module to its statistical analsysis package. With the statistical analysis package, FireStats' clients are able to do descriptive statistical analyses on-line at any time with their CAD and RMS data. The addition of the mapping tools allows for the geospatial output of the statistical queries -- essentially allowing the user to see where certain classes of calls, response times, personnel, etc., were located.  For more information and/or client references, contact FireStats President Paul Rottenberg.

 

FireStats' President Paul Rottenberg Apponted to the Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing Management Council of the American Management Association

FireStats' President Paul Rottenberg was recently appointed to the Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing Management Council of the American Management Association by the president of the AMA. The AMA is the premier non-profit training and education organization in the United States. Through its seminars, courses, conferences and publications, the AMA has over 900,000 training and education particpants per year from private industry and government. The Technology, Innovation and Manufacturing Management Council advises the AMA on trends in industry and government relative to the development and modification of AMA deliverables. The Council is made up of approximately 20 people including university professors and corporate directors and vice presidents from major corporations in steel and chemical manufacturing, biotech and software/security.

 

FireStats Introduces New Online Course Registration Program
September 2008

In response to requests to make course registration easier, FireStats has introduced a new, one-stop course registration process online. Using a secure SSL Authorize.net payment gateway and a secure registration page, the process of registering for a course and making payment by credit card has been reduced to about five minutes. Users can now register multiple students in one session and pay in one transaction. The system also allows for online regsiatrtion and payment later by check.

This program is not only useful to FireStats and to FireStats' course registrants and attendees, it is now available for fire departments and fire service instructors to use for their own trainings.

Among the features the program offers are:

  • Comprehensive student and department information collection
  • Automatic email confirmation to the registrant AND to the course instructor
  • Online database of registrants with all contact information
  • Online database of payment dates, types and amounts by student/registrant
  • Adjustable max class size
  • Automatic waitlisting and waitlist email generation
  • Easy creation, modification and deletion of course titles, dates, prices, etc...
  • Automatic calendaring of new classes
  • Automatic removal from calendar after class date
  • Plus many more features.

This program will be made available for a nominal per-student fee. Credit card payment processing is also available for an additional fee.

FireStats Introduces New Online Excel Tutorials

In response to requests to produce a users' manual or "cheat sheet" for the FireStats Data Analysis for Fire Officers  class, FireStats has introduced a new webpage with over 75 individual, step-by-step video tutorials for Excel operations. The video tutorials cover almost everything we offer in our classes, just all together at one time.

Anyone who has taken a class from us with an Excel component will find what they are looking for on this page if they need to try to do something we did in class.

The files are created and viewable ion Adobe Flash Player and can run in virtually any browser.

FireStats Offers Class in Data Usage

CPSE has teamed up with FireStats, LLC, to offer a new program to the fire service: Data Analysis and Presentation Using Microsoft Excel, A Special Class for Fire Officers with Responsibilities in Deployment Analysis, Data Presentation, and Resource Planning.

This new class aims to provide agencies with support and guidance on collecting data and using it to create a Standards of Response Coverage Document key to successful accreditation. The class supports CPSE's mission of continuing education to professionalize the fire service professionals.

With instruction by Paul Rottenberg, the program comprises 11 sections including statistics, data analysis, and presentations, among others. Class sizes are kept small to ensure hands-on education opportunities. Students will need a laptop computer with Microsoft Excel software to participate in the classes. If you are interested in hosting a class, please contact the CPSE offi ce toll-free at 866.866.2324 or 703.691.4620. There is a limit of two classes per month due to instructor and student schedules.
