FIRE SERVICE CONSULTING

FireStats offers professional consulting services to the Fire Service in several disciplines. Through our company principals and associates we are able to provide a broad range of unique and important data management services. FireStats works both as a prime consultant and as a sub-consultant to other firms retained to perform broader-range work such as strategic plans, station siting studies, Standards of Response Coverage, self assessment, et. al.

FireStats offers the highest level of expertise in computer programming, mathematical and economic analysis, and risk assessment. We have current, ongoing contracts with fire departments to develop annual operations and baseline studies as well as to perform monthly statistical analyses that update annual reports

Services We Provide

DATA ANALYSIS / DEPLOYMENT ANALYSIS (click to expand)

FireStats specializes in providing statistical analysis to fire departments. Using a variety of different computer programs and programming languages we are able to capture data from Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CADs) and Records Management Systems (RMS,) analyze the data and provide clear, defensible and explicable reports back to our fire department clients.

DATA MIGRATION FROM RMS and CAD (click to expand)

Many fire departments are reluctant to change RMS packages because they are concerned that they will have to run tandem systems in order to be able to recover their data from the legacy RMS package. FireStats has database experts who can map an RMS database, capture the performance-related data, and migrate it to a new RMS package so that the most important performance data a department has is not abandoned to an old RMS package

RECORDS MANAGEMENT/DATA CAPTURE (click to expand)

FireStats has worked with most major CAD and RMS systems and can easily capture the most relevant deployment-related data using database programs common to most PC environments. Once we identify the CAD or RMS, we can create a bridge, or path, for your personnel to read data directly from CAD or RMS into a program like Access, Excel or FileMaker Pro. Bypassing the CAD or RMS reporting modules makes it possible to perform a broad range of analyses without the cumbersome step of writing or buying queries for programs like Crystal Reports. This is an especially important activity in statistical analysis as it allows personnel who know what analyses they wish to perform to quickly access their data and seamlessly move it to an analysis program.

Why Use FireStats?

FireStats has worked for dozens of fire departments on a wide variety of projects. Some projects have been as small as a few hours of work to create a relatively simple spreadsheet for the tracking of firefighter certifications by type and expiration date. Other projects are on-going, long-term agreements to provide statistical observations of department operations. In each case, however, FireStats is hired for our ability to support fire service management on non-routine tasks that require specialized analysis and/or management tools. In most cases we are able to turn over our responsibilities to department personnel once our tasks are completed.

How We Do Things

Projects start with the fire chief. This is because it is usually the fire chief who initially hires us and who has the vision of what he/she wishes to accomplish. We work closely with command to make sure that the scope of the project is well understood and, where the findings are complex, we work through an extensive draft report process to make sure that command understands and is comfortable with our findings prior to the publication of any final draft report.
